Top 5 Reasons to use a Faraday Bag
Did you know that unless you remove their batteries, your electronic devices aren’t really turned off? Just ask NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
As the world becomes increasingly digitalised, the threats also come with the benefits, such as the hacking of our devices. And some of these threats are costlier than others.
A Faraday bag helps protect this and more, so here are the top 5 reasons for using one:
1. Prevents stealthy, remote hacking of your electronic devices: As a Faraday bag blocks all radio signals across the Bluetooth, RFID, GPS, and Wi-Fi spectrum, it can repel potential contactless swiping of your credit cards using scanners close to your wallet. It also prevents data theft from mobile phones, laptops, Bitcoin hardware wallets, credit cards, passports, smart watches etc.
Also, three minutes is all it takes to steal a car without keyless entry via a Signal-Extender Relay Attack (or SERA). Thieves catch the radio frequency of the key fob, clone it, and then using the newly made duplicate signal to open the door of the cars and drive off. Faraday bag can prevent this as it blocks RFID signals.
2. Protects against environmental threats to your electronics: Natural or man-made activity such as solar/sun storm or EMP/nuclear attacks can wipe out power grids and electronics (disrupt electronics such as mobile phones and computers, to cars) on earth.
3. Prevents GPS tracking: Even if you turn Location Services off, your device could use GPS to know where you are, especially via the apps you have installed, with no way of finding out if you are.
4. Light. Portable. Private: Unlike a larger Faraday cage (which has its own uses), you can bring the lightweight, bag anywhere - outdoors, on the run etc. It fits into haversacks easily too. Furthermore, it is not bulky and will not raise suspicion.
5. Low risk-reward ratio: It’s not expensive to own a decent Faraday bag. Even if people think the probability of the risk of remote hacking is low (and we don’t think it is), the cost of a Faraday bag is also low, the fraction of a cost of a mobile phone.
Our Faraday bags are exactly this - being inexpensive, it protects your wallet as much as it does your digital wallet! Check out the Faraday sleeve and Dry bags in our Faraday collection here!
